Grace and Mercy

For some of us, grace and mercy is hard to understand. I read a story that may help illustrate exactly what grace and mercy looks like.

“When Billy Graham, (a famous Evangelist), was driving through a small town, he was stopped by a policeman and charged with speeding. Graham admitted his guilt, but was told by the officer that he would have to appear in court

The judge asked, “Guilty or not guilty?” When Graham pled guilty, the judge replied, “That’ll be ten dollars---a dollar for every mile you went over the limit.”

Suddenly the judge recognized the famous minister. “You have violated the law,’ he said. The fine must be paid- but I am going to pay it for you.” He took a ten dollar bill from his own wallet, attached it to the ticket, and then took Graham out and bought him a steak dinner! “That” said Billy Graham, “is how God treats repentant sinners!”

You see my friends, we do things wrong in our lives time and time again, but when we ask Jesus to forgive us, our sins are forgiven. Then when we stand before our God on Judgement day, we will be recognized too as a child of the living God. A child that Jesus, God’s own Son, paid the full price willingly for our sins. How? By giving all He had, His own life, just for us, so we could be free, so we wouldn’t have to pay our debt. We didn’t deserve it, we did the crime, the sin, so by all rights, we should have to pay but Jesus accepted our crimes, our sins and paid it all, just for us. Then He accepts us as His own and invites us to the Feast and to live with Him eternally. Did we deserve it? No, but because of the love Jesus Christ has for us, He shows us His grace and mercy and His unconditional love.
